Studio History

Kellert Music Studios has been providing students with quality music education for over ten years. Located in convenient downtown Silver Spring, Maryland, we provide early childhood music classes as well as instruction in woodwinds and piano to students of all ages. Our students have been recognized both locally and nationally with scholarships, awards, and competition prizes on their respective instruments.

Teaching Philosophy

Today's music world is a fast paced, ever-changing environment. Music is all around us: on TV and radio, in commercials and movies, and on computers: what we hear is a diversity that is always developing and expanding. The musical development of children now includes a wide variety of styles and sounds: from Bach and blues to pop and jazz and world music, all of these styles need to be part of the studio's essential curriculum. No longer is it acceptable for students to simply memorize by rote in one style: they should be taught to understand how what they are learning can be applied elsewhere to sight-read, transpose, recognize key signatures, improvise, and compose in a variety of styles.... giving them an understanding and appreciation which will enhance a lifelong enjoyment of many and varied kinds of music.
